Working with reluctant readers

Supporting students with reading difficulties

The information in this unit is designed to support teachers as they work with students who have difficulties with reading and writing. The suggested techniques are based on the principal that reading and writing go together and that skills in both are improved when links are made during the teaching process. There are notes on: creating balanced reading and written language programmes, reading to children, teaching letter knowledge and running shared book, guided reading and cloze reading tasks.
