Word building from base words

Short story + language tasks

This unit consists of a short text about a boy who likes to build models of dinosaurs, and worksheets focussed on building complex words. In the first activity students explore base words and how they connect whole groups of words into a family, before moving on to finding nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs that are all built from the same base word. The third worksheet focuses on building new words by joining or blending two or more existing words together. In the final task students look at the etymology of dinosaur names.
