Colons and semi-colons Cover

Colons and semi-colons

Short story + language tasks

This unit consists of a text about man who organises a 'play station' for his grandson's birthday and worksheets focussed on colon and semi-colon usage. In the first activity students explore using colons to expand on what is written before the colon or form a list relating to something identified before the colon. Worksheet 2 looks at using colons to introduce what someone says, either before a direct quote or as used in a play script. Students need to show their understanding of how semi-colons can be used to join two sentences in the third activity, while the third activity reinforces using semi-colons to separate items in a list.
